Description
.................Pong for One or Two Musicians is a live performance audio/visual work.
The piece uses game mechanics loosely based on the classic video game Pong to facilitate interaction between the musicians and
the electronic sound. Live sound from the performers, in addition to being a key aspect of the overall sonic experience, is analyzed
and used to control graphical paddles which are used to volley a quirky bouncing ball across the screen.
Approximate Duration: 5-10 minutes (varies)
Instrumentation: Any solo or duo of pitched instruments
Tech Requirements: Computer with SuperCollider and Processing (any OS), one or two microphones or pickups, minimum 2 in
2 out computer audio interface, two speakers, projector, screen.
Here is a very low quality video example of a solo version of Pong:
Screen Shots
The purple side's turn to hit the ball. The ball changes direction when it hits a paddle or the wedge in the middle of the screen.
Unlike regular Pong, when the ball reaches the side of the screen it wraps around to the other side.
Also unlike regular Pong, the bottom of the screen has "gravity."
The red and yellow rectangles appear occasionally when the ball hits certain things. They have their own sound and move around the
screen until they expire.
